WALKING: "DE PALINGROUTE" (EEL ROUTE)

The palingroute is a walk around the old peat polder Katwoude and is 14 kilometres long. You will enjoy the view over the IJsselmeer.

It is a luxury to be able to walk the dike of Katwoude. The palingroute which thanks its name to the fish smokeries in Volendam and Monnickendam which she guides you along and which goes around the old peat and cheese polder Katwoude.

The walk shows a captivating bit water state knowledge. The Hoogedijk is firmly and tough, after Katwoude has wrestled in the course of centuries with water. The water calamity of 1915 that flooded Waterland and also Katwoude, gave the initial impetus to the construction of the IJsselmeer dam.
